Just thought I would ask here before I call a plumber.

I have a dripping faucet in the bathtub. I live in a high-rise condo. The building handyman said to fix it might require turning off the water to other units in the building. Does this sound right?

That depends on how it was plumbed. Normally in a high rise, you would have shutoffs for the tub valve if it's a single lever. A two handle is less likely to have them, but could.
Also, some units were plumbed with their own shutoff. So much depends on the year built and how the plumbers were making their decisions. Apartments and condo's from the 70's often only had one shutoff for the entire building. In those cases, you need to notify neighbors before any shutdown.
I have also seen some plumbed in stacks, where the lowest unit controls water for the units directly above them. Hopefully you have people in the building that have done this before and know the steps.
