Does anyone sell an anti-stacking pump?

I'm not talking about the systems that pump water around the house, I'm talking about a simple anti-stacking pump that could be installed on an existing water heater, and would circulate water from top to bottom continuously. I saw a patent for something like it, but don't see anyone selling one. Sounds inexpensive too.

If the heat source is in the bottom, wouldn't convection keep the water mixed? Hotter water is going to rise.

No, we have a whole house humidifier that draws a tiny bit off the top, apparently causing stacking. Every once in awhile a bunch of gray stuff comes out of the hot faucet, indicating that something may be eating the bottom of the unit? I haven't been able to drain the heater at all, being there appears to be some kind of weird valve on the hose connector that turns the hose when I try to open it. I've never done that before.

How about a photo of your weird valve that prevents flushing your water heater.

I really can't see how the humidifier is going to cause this gray stuff to appear. Do you have a well or city water?

Why not take the humidifier feed from a cold water tap instead? If a small humidifier draw is causing stacking then the easiest solution would be to move the tap to the cold side... Beats installing a pump that will continuously use power, transfer heat to the surroundings, and be a potential maintenance and leak source.

FWIW, I've not had issues using cold water to my humidifier. STacking can happen, but is not all that common. The exact conditions aren't all that easy to create in pure water...much easier on say salt water with fresh.
