Do I need to vent or will this wet vent?

I am redoing a real bad bathroom install that was already done when I bought my house.

Will be installing an in wall carrier to be able to get rid of a 6 inch platform that the previous owner put in.

If that is a waste stack above the toilet, you will need to vent before it enters that line.
Wet venting is for the same floor, bathroom fixtures only.

Something like this?

Well I finally finished demo-ing the 12 inch platform that was built previously to put in a toilet in the house I bought. And this was the hack job they did to connect the toilet, washing machine and future shower to.

My question is, is there such a thing as a 5 inch to 3 inch adaptor I can properly install in there to fix that hack job?

I'm wondering if that vent in the diagram in Post #3 shouldn't be downstream of the toilet, rather than upstream.

Anyone use this to connect to their cast iron main stack?
@wjcandee : I understand what you mean. I just might not have enough space between the in wall carrier and the main stack. I will try to fit it in there though.

Finally made it to the floor drain. I need to know if this floor drain is right. I don't understand the way the pipe is running.

It could be that is a cleanout in a little pit, and the square on top was a cover. That interpretation presumes there is a pipe going down.

It is also possible that the pipe does not go to the sewer system.

Ahh... In that case, I would think the pit and pickup form kind of a trap. So the guess is that the pit would normally hold water up to the level of the bottom of the horizontal pipe. That would keep sewer gasses from coming out.

I have no knowledge of such systems, and I am only speculating.

There was no water at all in the pit. I see a big hole where the cast iron is coming out. Debating on best way to convert this to a better more modern way with a p trap and cleanout

I would start with figuring out what the horizontal pipe connects to.

If you can monitor your sewer output flow through a later cleanout, you could fill that drain area with water, and see if you can see the water come through at that later cleanout.

I hope a professional would chime in. From google searches, it would seem to some sort of old french drain system?? The bottom of the pit looks like gravel, and would explain the downwards facing cast iron wye...

Update: looked aound the pit and a flashlight (its dark in there) found another hole in the pit

Here's an update and a question for the pros in here. Finally got the rubber adaptor for the cast iron stack. Which of these two layouts would you guys recommend. 2 inch drain coming from the left is the washer drain. Toilet is wall mount carrier. There's just no room for a vent between the toilet and the stack so it will have to be a 2 inch right behind it through the sanitary T

Thanks Terry,

In one photo, the wye is at around 40 degrees straight into the stack. The other is more a typical wye lying down with a slight slope. Is one better than the other?

Lying down the wye i wont have to raise the washer drain much.
