Is the small piece in the picture with the hexagonal fitting something I can replace without having to buy a new diverter valve?

This diverter valve is on a jacuzzi tub. Is it a special valve or something universal?

It won't turn - especially now that I've torn off the stub the handle fits onto. It's calcified in the "shower" position and won't turn to the "tub" faucet position. Can I replace the valve by putting a socket onto the hexagonal fitting you can barely see in the vertical pipe?

Please help me identify what I've got here and what I need to do.

Thanks,
