I have 80 gal Bradford White HWH, which I use as a holding tank most of the time. I also have a geothermal HWH which is primary source of hot water. When I take the geothermal HWH offline and turn the electric elements on, I get a yellowish color to the hot water. I replaced the elements and completely flushed the tank, which showed no discoloration during the flush. Turned the electric elements back on and got discolored water. Turned off the electric elements and turned the geothermal system back on and the discolored water was gone. The tank is only 5 years old and now has new elements. The elements I removed looked like normal elements after 5 years of use.

Would appreciate any insight others may have on the cause of the discoloration.
