I am trying to change out the bathtub spout in my downstairs bathroom. I took off the old faucet and there is an adapter soldered to the copper pipe:

I can't install a new spout with the adapter there and also want to remove because it's dirty. I am thinking I can cut the copper pipe behind the adapter and then add another fitting. Does this sound doable? That seems easier than trying to un-solder the adapter with a torch.
