Delta single handle tub spout drop

Hi,
I have a Delta Porter single handle tub/shower faucet to install. The directions say to drop the tub spout between 8 to 18 inches below the diverter. I'd like to drop it only 6 inches to keep from doing major reconstruction and match what is already there. What odd effects will this cause? I plan on using half inch copper for the drop. Thanks.

You can use ANY drop measurement you want to as long as the spout does not interfere with the large trim ring.
