How the heck do you stop the brushes snapping off the lid?

I don't think you can. I never plan on keeping them very long.

That cement contains dissolved plastic and a solvent. Get any on the threads, or fail to get a good seal, and the solvent evaporates, leaving the solid plastic that bonds well to many things! Unless you're using lots, don't buy a big can thinking you're going to save money as you'll probably end up throwing it away.
