I live in north florida - high humidity and high volatility temp environment. My house was been repiped through the attic due to a slab leak before i bought it (with CPVC). I know the job was done in 2009. I have been thinking about how long the CPVC will last recently for budget purposes, i have heard it can last 50+ years - but then I have heard from others than in my climate it might not last even 15-20 years. I have inspected the pipes - they are not chalking, are not discolored or cracked (Flowguard Gold) - they appear to be in very good condition.....and there are no leaks or anything. The attic does get very hot in the summers but it is well ventilated with many soffit screens and a very large roof vent (COBRA ridge across the whole roof). At this point the installation is 17 years old - how much longer can i realistically expect from this install? Asking for planning purposes and also peace of mind purposes :)

Thank you!

Call the manufacturer with all the numbers on the pipe ask for tech ask them. They say 50 years + , no uv , and good for 190° water. Company i worked for was using cpvc in 6 story condo buildings that was 16 years ago. City of St. Louis wasn't worried about it. Good enough to meet their code.
Personally i wouldn't worry about it

Seems Florida are the only ones that I know that plumb houses with it today Here in so cal its all expansion pex some copper repipes but CPVC I dont think 1 in 100 houses have it here , And its not well acepted by plumbers that do construction .
to me the walls are thin and it gets brittle take a plastic pipe cutter and try snipping 15 year pipe it shatters new pipe dosent.
some serves well for decades how many i dont know certainly 25 or 30 maybe some go 50 i dont think there is a house with 50 year old cpvc in florida but there are trailers from early or mid 70s with it I had a 1974 trailer of my own i repiped in copper when nmy pipes froze and busted in Nevada 1994 it was easy enough i just got rid of it ran copper .
Cpvc is so common in florida try to get local opinion but I think youll get all kind of answers

Charlotte Pipe is the MFR and they say 50 for Flowguard gold but ive heard other stories along the lines of what Jeff is talking about with brittleness. i guess if we dont ever touch the lines (which we have no plans to do) they will be fine until 2060 or so :)

thanks all

Just my experience with it is don't look at it too hard and definitely don't touch it, it shatter like glass when it gets older.
