Hello,

The toilet in my basement has a pressure assist tank vessel that is in need of repair. I received the repair kit from the manufacturer due to a recall, but I was wondering if I would be able to replace the tank vessel with a different type of flush valve without having to replace my toilet altogether. If this is possible, which valve would be best for a basement toilet? I personally replaced the valve in my upstairs bathroom so I can replace this one by myself, however I don't have the knowledge of which valve is best.

Thanks in advance for your help:)

Unfortunately it’s not possible. The bowls that come with those pressure vessel tanks are specially designed with the high pressure in mind. Using a traditional gravity-style flush valve would barely allow a trickle of water to go into the bowl.

You can switch to a different flush valve but make sure it’s compatible with your toilet model. For basement toilets, pressure-assisted valves often work best to ensure strong flush power with lower water pressure.
