Is a control box for a submersible pump necessary? I was just going to connect it to a pressure switch and that's all. What's the purpose of a control box in addition to a pressure switch?

A "2 wire" submersible pump does not use a control box. The pressure switch is all you need.

A "3 wire" single phase submersible pump does need a control box. The box has the starting circuits.

This looks like 2 wire plus a ground?

Probably, but the ground wire is normally green. Is there no manufacturer's documentation?

You could check for continuity between your yellow/green wire and the case to be sure.

It's striped yellow green, which think it's a European standard?
Although, this one was made in Asia somewhere.
