I had to cut out an old SV 4" cast iron pipe since it was split almost entirely from spigot to bell. At the upstream bell end of the bad pipe, I'm gonna be left with an incoming elbow spigot w/ lip that was caulked. Is there a band coupling that can accommodate the wider OD of the caulk lip and adapt it to 4" PVC? If not, I suppose I could cut the lip portion off but I wanted to check first. What do you guys normally do here?

Search this forum for "donut" using the search box above. See if that will meet your needs to connect a PVC pipe to a cast iron hub.

My problem is not connecting PVC to a hub. My problem is connecting PVC to the spigot end of a CI pipe. There is a lip on the CI.

Got a picture? Could that lip be lead from the last connection that could be removed? If CI, depending on the diameter, could you grind the lip off?
