I have a case where the 1/2 copper supply line is somewhat short coming out of the wall and currently has a cap on it. I planned to remove the cap and put a compression stop value on the end, but raised a question in my mind whether the compression ring would seal properly over the silver solder (naturally the pipe will be wiped as clean as possible to remove any excess solder).

Question: Will a compression fitting work in this case?

The tin solder if smooth will be fine with compression.
Most new solder is 95 percent tin.
Solder from the 70's and older may be 50% tin and 50% lead.
