Are there any good quality compact systems that would easily fit into a 4.5 ft crawl space? Upstairs space is limited and well components are already down there. Like the compactness of the Waterboss units, but wondered if there were any other options with maybe a fleck controller in a 30K+ grains capacity?

There is 10" x 35" that can do 1.00 cu. ft.( "32,000 grains" ) when used with a turbulator. The controller goes atop that.

With a shovel, if the crawlspace is not concreted, you can dig out a pit that lets you use a bigger tank, such as a 12" x 52" 2.00 cu. ft. ( "64,0000 grains" )

The brine tank can be separated by a fair amount. It could even be on the floor higher than the crawl space.
http://www.discountwatersofteners.com/fleck-5600-sxt-cabinet-style-on-demand-32-000-grain-water-softener.html is a 5600sxt controller in an all-in-one cabinet. Adding salt would be awkward unless you have a trap door over the location, I am thinking.

10x35 is a great tank but there is also a 12x35 USA made Clack Corp tank that we use regularly. No turbulator needed.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
