Hi folks, my daughter lives in a city area and had more than her share of problem with city sewer, a few flood
over the years in her basement.
After another one this week-end where the ManHole in the street poped-up, a never seen according to the blue
collar and supervisor.
I found out that the sewer pipe of 10" gets reduced to 8" and down the street later to 10" again.
To no surprise, apparently the 8" was practically completly blocked.....

Does this sound right to you, I think that they now realize after 3-4 years that there is
a problem with there system..My daughter only choice now is to go after the city because
she's no longer able to be insured for water dammage.
Regards

They should clean out the blocked line more often now that they know that this blockage can occur. They do have a manhole at each end, so that is good.

But right now a lot of dammage has been done to the basement with 5-6" of water and even if they found some huge
pieces of asphalt for which they claim no responsability, The only thing we can corner them is that do diligence was not made.(apparently)

The city broke a basic rule of plumbing. NEVER reduce a drain. Stay the same size or increase. IMHO, your daughter has a legal case against the city. Many year ago, there was a buffet restaurant about 2 blocks above me. Their grease trap was ineffective and grease came down the drain and emptied into the manhole where my sewer drained. The grease hardened and formed a plug on the manhole outlet. The city paid. I didn't even turn it into my insurance. I doubt if your daughter's case will even go to court.
