Hello my water stopped to my house. I called the city and they told me their backflow preventer broke and they came out to try to pull it out on the street side. They were unable to and said it is stuck somewhere in my side between my water softener loop and the street. I was thinking of turning off the water removing the inlet from the water softener loop and plug in a shop vacuum to try and get it out. I’m trying to get a plumber as well. Should I try this or I’m going to kill myself doing this?

I forgot to mention on my side I have a water pressure regulator and backflow preventer as well because the city water is over 100 psi.
thanks

I would pull the PRV and replace it. Those have an incoming screen that gets easily plugged. Make sure you flush the line before installing the new unit.

Oh you think it got stuck in the screen and I could clean it out and turn it back on. The city confirmed they clogged a few homes when their backflow broke.

That's a thought that I have. I have seen those screens pretty packed before. And if you pull it, you might as well go back with new.
