What is the best way to set up a chlorine feeder/oxidizer for a Katalox Light filter using a Fleck 5600-econominder ? I have a heavy duty 5 Gal jug I wanted to use with a pre-measured Cl2 to H20 mixture. Since I can't set the brine refill to zero on the econominder, I'm not sure this is possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What size mineral tank and what temp. of water. The 5600 is not usually used with KL due to its limited backwash rates.

As to regenerating it with the Econominder... not a great way to do it. You could simply try intermittently regenerating it manually with Chlorine/water solution, I would suggest a cup or two into a gallon or two of water. Since it is done intermittently, it is not that critical. If you want to do regular regenerations with Chlorine, you would be better off getting a different valve.

Thank you very much for your reply. My tank is 10 x 44. Didn't get a chance to measure water Temp, but it's a shallow well in Tampa Florida. I also realized that it is not the econominder but the mechanical time clock 5600.

I have a 7GPM DLFC button which I believe is the max. I also have the valve piston (PN 60102-10) that is supposed to have a 50% longer backwash time. I can fill a 5 gallon bucket consistently in less than 15 seconds.

What valve do you recommend ?

I wonder if you could use a little check valve to allow drawing chlorine solution but not filling. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=23369 Would these be be durable enough in the face of the chlorine solution? Seems so. Looks good for Viton and Kynar, . http://www.calpaclab.com/viton-chemical-compatibility-chart/ http://plastomatic.com/789.pdf Polypropylene also looks good on this one which gives an "A" for "Sodium Hypochlorite 15% (Chlorine Bleach)". http://www.plasticsintl.com/plastics_chemical_resistence_chart.html

The problem when using a liquid bleach on this valve is that it will draw all the solution in every time. So every regeneration you have to refill the tank. Modern electronic valves can be programmed for a very short brine draw cycle thereby drawing in only a small amount of your solution. The brine refill is good to do for a very short time to clear the brine system of the bleach when it is sitting for days between regenerations.
