I want to replace my slip fit tub spout with a threaded tub spout. Therefore I want to replace the spout supply pipe from smooth copper to a threaded short nipple. I thought it would be easy to unscrew the existing pipe and thread on a replacement… but the existing pipe is firmly resisting being unscrewed and the smooth copper is getting damaged by my efforts.
I'm beginning to wonder if the pipe is soldered to the supply line. What I see inside the wall is a larger (1") pipe that the smooth copper slides into, and it looks like the smooth copper pipe is soldered into 1/2" threaded adaptor, because I can barely see the hex flats.
Before i put a three foot long breaker bar on this, can anybody identify what I'm looking at and confirm that it's meant to be unscrewed?
(I hope my picture uploads!)
