I'm a homeowner doing renovations and to create more space we're changing the layout of our main floor bathroom. The sink, toilet and shower were all tied to the main 3" stack, first the sink with no vertical vent, then the toilet with no vertical vent, then further down the horizontal pipe the shower drain was connected to the 3" stack and vented using a 1-1/2" pipe, connecting to another vent in the attic.
We are moving the toilet and it will be connected to the 3" main stack in a different area, with it's own vent (still need to figure that out too!) My question is - can I tie in the shower drain to the old toilet drain - eliminating the need for that 1-1/2" vent for the shower.
This is where the toilet used to connect to the 3" main stack, with no separate vent. Upstream is only the bathroom sink, which drains above this, also with no separate vent. This 3" stack then runs up through the roof of the house to vent out. Nothing else below is using this as a vent.
Can I connect the shower drain to this 3" stack and avoid having a separate vent?
