Hello all, I have what is hopefully a simple question.

I am needing to make a couple conversions from PB to Pex, in the past I have used the special Sharkbite fitings for this purpose, but I decided for the price of two of those I could buy a Pex clamp tool and have it forever.

I have also purchased a couple of the brass PB to Pex adapters, and was told at the time that the stainless clamp rings work just fine on them.

But as usual, I like to get a second opinion. Can I use the stainless clamp rings on PB since I am using the appropriate fitting? In my mind I dont see why not, since they are the same OD, ID is different, but Im not a pro, thats why Im here.

The PEX to PB adapters SHOULD have had two rings with them. One a darker color for the PB side and a standard one for the PEX. You can use the stainless steel rings but I doubt that anyone would guarantee you will not have a leak or failure some time.

I purchased mine from a privately owned supply place, so it wasnt prepacked with the 2 rings, either that or since i had asked about the stainless rings maybe he didnt grab them.

The fittings from supplyhouse.com state it can be used with either, but thats of course not where i purchased them.

I see that oatiker makes stainless rings for polyb pipe, should i grab a bag of those? Will they work with my sharkbite tool system or should i just stick with the sharkbite branded rings? Sorry, im still new at this.

Yes, thats what i have, the tool that works with the stainless rings. Mine just happens to be marketed and sold under the Sharkbite brand name, its even listed on their website.

Ive read a handful a personal experiences where people have done it, and several places online that sell those fitings state they can be used with either system. I dont have the exact brand of fitting, but in theory the spec should be the same....in theory.
