Trying to fix a noise problem with a Hansgrohe shower valve assembly. The water lines and valve assembly froze and after it thawed out it developed a slow leak and a short buzzing noise that only occurs when another fixture in the house is closed. The noise seems to be caused by water hammer effect but does not sound like a typical hammer bang. Instead it sounds like the tiniest whoopee cushion fart you could imagine. The buzz lasts less than a second. No noise in the shower when in use. No change in the buzz when the mixing valve is set on cold, hot or middle position.
I disassembled the unit and reseated a rubber noise reduction plug that was the source of the leak. I also found the cold water backflow preventer broken from freeze damage. I removed the broken backflow preventer and reassembled and it is not leaking anymore but it still exhibits the buzzing noise. Otherwise the shower works perfectly.
I may order a replacement cold water backflow preventer to see if that has any effect. But wanted to see if anyone else had run into this buzzing issue before. Is it more likely a damaged cartridge? Or an issue with the noise reduction plugs?
