Hi all,

Have been reading for a few years, and it’s been very informative. Many thanks for your time and input!

We recently needed to have a clog snaked (backup into kitchen sink), and discovered that primary issue is root infiltration in a small section. It appears to be before the cleanout, which is about 3’ from our foundation.
The plumber had to pull the toilet to reach the clog, as he could not navigate the snake the direction needed to clear the line from the cleanout.

We were given an estimate of $3400 for the repair of the problematic section. But how do we get additional estimates for the same work? We don’t have the video, so everyone we’ve called says they’ll charge a call-out fee, and it’s up to the guy who shows up if the toilet needs to be pulled to assess the problem. In our area, it’s $400-$600 to set a toilet (this recent adventure to address the clog and pull/reset the toilet was $900).

Do I really have to spend $1200 to get estimates for a $3400 job? Do I just pull the toilet myself and ask them to come with a camera, and pay for that plus the callout fee? What’s my best move here?

Or if there are recommendations for a plumber in the Decatur/Atlanta area, please send them my way! (Actually, please do that anyway!)

Thanks much!
