Recently noticed diminished water pressure from a couple faucets, upon pulling the aerators off they spit out a ton of black iron particles. Water is supplied from a well on the property, which I know nothing about. But my first thought (for the source) was the ancient water heater system pictured below -- This is an old solar water heater system from 1992.

Anyone know anything about this Ford Solar water heater, what this mystery black box is, and if either may be the source of the crud in the water?
