Hello I am planning to install this battery backup sump pump:

I only have one electrical outlet near the sump pump pit. Can I use an extension cord to convert that single outlet into two? I think I will need only about 2 -3 feet extension. What should I look for in a good extension cord? Any suggestions for good extension cords in Amazon, Home Depot, etc.?

Extension cords are not for permanant use per the NEC. The best thing to do would be to move the outlet, or add another outlet where you need it.

If you do use an extension cord, get one with 12 gauge (or even 10 gauge) wiring, as short as possible to do the job, and secure the cord to something, so it can't easily be disconnected accidentally. This one at Amazon might fit the bill, if 2 feet is long enough.

Can't you turn your box into a double ganger? Depending on the draw from the appliance's I guess it shouldn't be a big deal.
