Trying to replace my old bathtub drain with a new one and am using a tool to remove the old one, but it doesn't seem to be coming out. The cross bars at the bottom are there and it catches the tool but it just spins and spins, doesn't ever seem to loosen or come up.

This is what happens when I try:
Photo of what I have to work with: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_W3QJTkLj4GbnhwZ1lFVFpUR1JwaDdBS0htQ20zYnRENlc4/view?usp=sharing

I don't know if I should keep going or not... I've been spinning it for a long time but it doesn't seem to get looser and isn't coming up. I do see some putty looking stuff slowly coming out as it spins around...

Advice? Thanks
