Hi,
I am replacing my bathroom fan. Due to the location, I can not just put the new one in the same location for 2 reasons; (1) The grill for the replacment fan will entend and hit the wall on the left. (2). The HVAC ductwork is right above.
So I need to place the new fan box to the right about 1 inch so the grill will not hit the wall. In order to do that, I need to notch the joist about 1 inch for a length of about 7 inches. I would put a wood joint or scarf on the back side of the notched joist. Is this sufficent for the load?
I know I could move the entire thing, but it seems easier to use the current spot as the exhaust pipe and electrical connection are also right there.
Thank you
