We recently purchased a new bath spout which appears to connect connect differently than typical. Any advice on how this should be installed? Should what appears to be a close nipple be removed and longer nipple inserted? Just don’t want to try and remove and ruin the spout if it can’t be removed....

You can take that nipple out by using a hex wrench and not damage it. Look inside. Then just use whatever length nipple you need to make it work.
