Basement floor drain odour

Sewer smell coming from a basment cement floor drain 8” lower than the wood floor with 2" diameter hole to access. The drain at the bottom looks like it is 2" in diameter. Moved in 4 years ago and was using the water and vegetable oil once a year but this year the smell reappears more often.
I would need a permanent solution, the use of the drain is not a necessity as it has been dry for the past years. This drain's location is in a basement laundry room that also has a recently replaced hot water tank. Access is difficult as it is under our washer. How do I get rid of this stench please.
 
install a trap primer . is one way thats the way we are supposed to plumb in my code
