I have 4'x3'x3' hole at my foundation where an outside cleanout is to be installed and a small portion of cast iron pipe replaced with PVC and Fernco type couplings.

I have to backfill the hole.

How long shall I wait after the repair to assure its all good?

What is the proper procedure for backfill?

I was going to uses fresh sand along the bottom of the pipe and about 6" above and to the sides and then just dump the old dirt in.

Thanks you for any guidance.

You can run water through to make sure the repair is good. Backfill with sand and you're good to go.
Some cast is smaller than others. Old cast may be +1/8" diameter and some +3/8"
If it's the small stuff I sometimes use a copper x cast iron coupling. PVC can be noticably larger than the cast.

Thank you, sounds simpler than I thought.

Is there anything extra that needs to be done to the couplings before burying them in sand?
What about tamping down the soil?

This is also pretty shallow (approx. 3' which is above frost line) and I am in freezing temperatures... thought I would throw that out there too if that makes a difference.

Have a nice weekend.
