Older 30+ toilet, has the tilt actuator. Problem is the actuator is going over center to the left when lifted and stays. Brand new OEM unit does the same thing. any ideas or simple alternative?

thx

Bob

There WAS a tab on the flush valve that kept that from happening, but sometimes it gets broken off when the flapper disc is replaced. A paper clip in the same location will usually perform the same function.

I'm pretty sure that years ago I just slid the collar of one of these over the overflow riser in lieu of the tilt-flush, but I could be wrong. Or I could have been lucky. https://www.korky.com/products/flapper-seal-replacements/plus-classic-flapper

I may have removed the tank and replaced the flush valve with one of these: https://www.korky.com/products/flush-valve-replacements/adjustable-2-flush-valve-premium-flapper

The former is an easy job if it works. The latter is more-involved, but still a relatively-straightforward DIY job. I have done several flush valve replacements around the house. Removing and re-mounting the tank always ends up being more-involved than one imagines it will be (rusted bolts or a balky nut underneath the old flush valve or whatever), but it's certainly do-able. It might be worth the $5 to see if you can just install the flapper I mentioned in lieu of the tilt-flush. Whatever I did, I haven't had to even look at it in like 8 years. (I'm not there now, or I would just go look... Sorry about that.)
