We have a cottage in Maine that currently we use infrequently, mostly in the summer and fall.

As explained in another thread, the 400' water line connecting us to the municipal water is failing, and the cost of digging and replacing it may exceed the cost of a well (quoted at $8,000 including pump).

I am concerned about the well not being used for 2-3 months at a time. Will the water quality and/or volume suffer form lack of use? Is this bad for the pump?

Should I have a neighbor run the water once a month?

I am concerned because of we have had issues with the relatively new septic system due to infrequent use (lines freezing, weep holes in discharge lines from lift pumps clogging, etc).
