This old wellxtrol tank is still working from 1976 or is the last number missing?

Amtrol with a different tag but still used the air valve on the side of the tank.

That means they must of had 9 numbers in the beginning. This was the one I had on "pump guys discussing whatever". It looks like a 36 or 96 and it can't be either one of those years.

install from my grandpa and uncle. This Goulds pump was on the other end with the original pressure switch and Goulds gauge when I found it.

I found this one outback that looks like 30 are the last numbers, I believe they stopped using the air valve on the side in the mid 80's.

Well, it seems that we can figure out more than Amtrol on their tags. I have talked with them a couple of times about what I'm finding on their tanks. One of them had been with Amtrol for about 45yrs and was the one that told me about the 9 numbers on their original stamp.

When these are used, you can tell that nobody did maintenance on their system. I've found WellXtrol tanks over 30yrs old and they are still holding their original Precharge because nobody has broken the label when you take off the cap.

There has pretty much always been an issues with Well-x-Trols bad out out of the box. It's very rare but it still happens. I get maybe one a year. It's way I always check the pre-charge before pluming them in, It really sucks to install a tank and have to take it right back out.

They are still the best tanks on the market, failure rate is so much lower than anything anyone else offers.

In close to 30 yrs I can't think of a single Well X Trol being bad out of the box. The only time we see have seen issues is if the precharge has been really low on an old tank and you bring it back up to spec. Then the diaphragm won't last a week.

From a purely economic point of view, why would you sell & install anything but a WX series? They have a better warranty than the competition, you know they're not going to give you problems and the few dollars price difference isn't worth talking about.

Well from a purely economic view, guys install other brands so they can get another install job 8 or 9 years down the line. If you install a Well-x-Trol you might not have to replace it in your lifetime.

From a customer service perspective you got it right.

I put the same equipment in my customers homes that I have in mine. They pay a bit more and I rest easier knowing that I'm not making excuses for something that fails prematurely.

Definitely good tanks. I lost faith in amtrol when the champion line had so many problems but we still sell on average 40 xtrol tanks a month and people love the 7 year warranty. Every once in a while we come across a old 204 that's still humming along. Good chat guys

The 89 dated tank was yesterday and today was another 89 dated tank for a farmer. This one had the air valve on top of the tank but I forgot my cellphone to take a picture.

Want to see some really old Refurbished pumps?

The green ones are Myers and the red one is Monarch
