Looking to get a generator for backup. I read you have to match the amps as well as the wattage.
Anyone set one up and it worked. Questions on the startup watt needing the generator to be of such like high wattage?

3kw will run it but probably won't start it. Manufacturers suggest matching the peak or surge rating of the generator to 'locked' rotor amps. On a 1.5hp you'd be looking at generators with a surge of 10kw. My experience says you could do it with less but that's what they recommend.
