Hi!
I'm installing an Americast tub in a 5´ wide bathroom and will use 1/2' kerdi boards and tiles for the surround.
It seams that American standard instructions for the flange are incompatible with the Schluter instructions.
AS tells me to use screws and washer just above the flange, then shim the stud and then have the drywall (kerdi board in my case) to go over the flange (I attached the instruction drawing). I don't like this option because I would then have to shim the 3 walks of the bathroom, which would be really annoying and I might run into problems with the door not being flush anymore.
On the other hand, Schluter tells me to install the boards sitting on the top of the flange, then put kerdi fix over the flange and then the tile over the board and flange (like in the photo I attach). For that methode, the flange is attached by drilling screws thru it (not a problem with acrylic bathtub).
The thing is I can't do that if there's washers above the flange. Is there anyway I could secure the anericast bathtub without the washers above the flange? Could I drill pilot wholes into the flange or that's a bad idea?
Thank in advance!!
Robin
