Hi,
When I open or close my hot water faucet from bathroom located at far most and high point from location of the indirect hot water tank (in basement), I hear loud water hammering sound. I tried to bleed air by turning off water and removing all water from bottom to top and reverse in order to turn on but did not help.

How do I go about fixing this problem ?

Air is not causing hammering.

When does the hammer sound occur-- a single bang when you turn off the water, or something else?

It is single bang. Also loud single bang happens in middle of night and it seems it is due to hot water tank somewhere. Because baseboard heat is not ON.

If your trying to air cushion in the piping. Valve off incoming water open faucets and drain in basement and leave them open for.at least 4 or more hours. Close basement drain and refill system slowly close valve after water runs out in a steady stream. Close them and move up.

I will give a try. Do you think I should install Expansion tank on cold water pipe going into indirect hot water input ? I already have on expansion tank feeding cold water in boiler but it feeds to close loop (Primary).

If there isn't a pressure reducing valve get gage with a garden hose adapter to measure the water pressure .

Finally I was able to major pressure in my cold and hot water pipe and pressure is 58 PSI(4 bar). I think it is within limit provided by City. My pressure reducing valve is controlling pressure correctly.

Yesterday, I heard noise again while I was home, quickly went down to basement and I saw that my boiler was on and Honeywell Zone valve for Indirect Hot water Tank was on. I was in impression it may be due to when valve is closing fast causing issue but that is not the case.

Still don't know what is causing banging noise specially in the night. (Note: My Heating system is off except the Hot water). I have ordered new expansion tank which I am going to hook up at cold water supply at Indirect WH. I already had one installed but it was leaking. This time I am going to make sure pressure setting matching with my cold water pressure which is 58 PSI.
