Hello All!
I have a workshop sink that drains into a 2" P-Trap. The trap arm is 8" long and goes into a 4" x 2" x 2" DWV tee. (The tee is actually cast iron 4" x 4" x 2 with a 4 x 2 threaded bushing at the top. The bushing has a PVC female adapter and a length of schedule 40 that ends with a BOCA vent. (I'm not sure, but I think the real term is Air Admittance Valve)

The 4" cast iron into which the sink drains goes immediately underground and wyes into the building drain as it exits the house.
A quick sketch is attached. The top of the AAV is flush with the floor rim of the sink. It can't be raised where it is.

Is that AAV required on this sink? Removing it will allow a different sink.

Thanks For Advising & Sharing Knowledge,

Paul

UPC doesn't actually allow AAVs at all, but, all plumbing needs venting and any AAV that is six inches above the p-trap does that job suitably for gravity drainage.
AAV needs to be permanently accessible.

Adding to what breplum said. The aav needs to be accessible and have a supply of fresh air to admit into the valve.

Venting to atmosphere is better but am aav should would work OK in your scenario.
