Symptoms: When a large amount of water is used for the washing machine or kitchen sink, the water backs up in the shower and tub. When a full tub is drained, it backs up into the shower. There is also gurgling in both toilets when the tub or washing machine is draining.

The toilet sits higher than the shower, so that is why the backup occurs at the shower drain rather than the toilet.

Many plumbers would rather do other things than rodding the sewer lines. Bring in a drain cleaning specialist. He will clean your lines. He has the big equipment and experience.

An independent non-chain person who has been around for a good while would be my choice if I did not have a word of mouth referral. He may know how the drains are usually run in your neighborhood.

If you put dangerous chemicals down the line, let him know. Don't add more acids or lye.

Your blockage is some feet down the pipe so it takes a volume of water to fill up to get to the shower, as water slowly drains though blockage you can flush But it will only get worse not better, you need a Professional Drain person as noted above

The local plumber I mentioned knows how to clear the sewer line, so I will contact him. He's been working on the houses here for years so he knows the issues. I'm just trying to see if there's a way I can figure out where the clog is located on my own. Which drain is easiest to gently use an auger through? I'm wondering if the shower, tub, or kitchen would be the best place to do this.

Also, I haven't used any chemicals, just the enzymes and bacteria products from Roebec which are basically just soap, wheat, and uria.

Update - A plumber cleared the line. It was $175. I believe the problem is that roots are growing into the pipe near the front of the house. Once he cleared that section, that's when the clog was released. There are mature shrubs and rose bushes right where the sewer line is located. A tree is located near there too. Once the line was clear, I used a root killer product. I'm going to do the camera scope too just so I could see if it needs to be replaced at some point since they are old pipes. So happy to have normal plumbing again.
