Hello,
I've got a functioning Well to 1000 gal storage tank, with pressure booster for house and shop. I'm looking to build a small area about 450 feet from that pumphouse for pressurized use there. I'm thinking I can use the existing 1000 gal tank as the water source (like a "well") for a smaller 500 gal tank at the remote site, then install its own booster/pressure tank setup at the new location. My question is what type of pump would be best? A submersible pump inside the 1000 gal tank (again, kind of like a well), or an external pump? The external pump seems easiest, if I can just tee off of the existing exit from the bottom of the 1000 gal tank. For an external pump with no floats it seems like I need to make sure the flow rate on an external pump is less than the flow rate coming from the well to the 1000 gal tank

So, external versus submersible?
For external, Tee off existing exit?
Are there any gotchas I need to keep in mind as I think this through?

Thanks,

You can fill multiple storage or cistern tanks with a single well pump. But you may need to switch from a float switch that turns the pump on and off to a float valve that opens and closes according to the level of the float. In this way a regular pressure switch turns on the well pump when either of the electric valves at the cistern tanks are opened and turns the pump off when the float closes the electric valves.

Then whether you use a submersible well pump for a booster pump like in the first drawing or a shallow well jet pump attached to an outlet pipe from the cistern is up to you. The 1HP, 33GPM, Hallmark submersible works great in a cistern and only cost 170 bucks. But if you can find a good shallow well jet pump that has a max pressure of at least 70 PSI it will work fine also.

Hey, wait a minute.
