Hi All,

I just took my existing shower down to the studs. It currently has a Moen Moentrol valve with pressure balancing (circa 2002) and a single shower head. I would like to add in a divertor handle to add a handheld shower wand. Can I cut into the pipe and add a Moen U231 valve to the existing valve? Assuming I get the spacing correct, would I have an issue finding trim if I did this?

The other option would be to replace the whole valve assembly with something new with a divertor but would be a couple hundred more.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Stan, there is limited availabilty for moentrol trim kits. Some trim kits are still out there, but they have been discontinued.
When it comes to putting things in the wall... This is where you spend your money....you cant go cheap here.....spend the money and get yourself something from 2025 with a built in diverter in the plate... Look at brands like Grohe, Hansgrohe, Even Delta. expect to pay $300.00 + but it worth it in the long run...
