I installed a Sterling acrylic tub and the drain is leaking where it is supposed to seal with the rubber gasket and drain pipe flange. The rubber gasket that came is fairly hard rubber and the drain flange is not perfectly straight (cannot access with cutting downstairs ceiling). Can I put silicone or some other sealant on the rubber gasket to help it seal or is there a softer rubber gasket/seal available or an slightly angled gasket?

Also: Should I use thread tape on the tub adapter where it threads into the plastic drain pipe or pipe dope or either?
Any help is appreciated.

no thread tape Iwould not use dope, silicone I dont like much but that might work clean off the putty, I dont know of a softer gasket typicaly my kits come with a moderatly dence gasket. bottom of those tubs around the hole have tendency to have kinda crappy quality control not saying sterling but I had a lot of them that looked kinda bad Ive taken grinder to a few

I'm not a plumber. I installed an acrylic tub and remember the drain required clear silicon, not plumbers putty. plumbers putty will make the acrylic turn yellow around the drain, look at Oatey's instructions. I would think the rubber washer went on the bottom between the tub and the nut.

Ill definately heed instructions I did check sterling acrylic tubs and they said use silicone no explanation but ill keep an eye out on that Im no chemist either LOL
