I am redoing some of my drains in ABS. Just upstream of the area I am working on, there is a section about 3 feet long, made of two 4” hub and spigot cast iron soil pipes, joined at slight angles so that the slope changes from about 6 degrees to 18 degrees.
Attached is a picture of one of the hubs with a crack. There is no other visible damage on the underside, and it appears to still be “sealed”, meaning it is not leaking any water and no smell.
Two questions for the group:
1) Should I bother cutting this section out, and replacing it now? Or could it have another 5-10 years of useful life?
2) If I do replace, I can’t find ABS elbows in angles less than 1/16 bend. This section is in a straight line, except for the slope. And it would be really hard to move the drains above or below this section. So HOW would I create about a 12 degree angle in the run, so it can join up with the existing plumbing?
thanks!!
