Hello. I have a rainsoft 2 tank system. each tank has an EC4 control unit on it. Brine line only runs to second tank. There does not appear to be any communication between the independent EC4/tanks. How does tank 1 get brine to regen?

The first tank, media tank without the brine tank, is probably a backwashing filter.

The timing of the two should be such that they do not regenerate at the same time. Filter regens are shorter. Softener regen would be 1 to 2 hours.

Yes. 1st tank is a super fast regen. That makes sense. Thanks!

You should be able to follow the plumbing to see if they are plumbed in series which would confirm what @Reach4 wrote, that the first tank is a filter, not a softener.
