2 inch main reduced to 1

30 feet of 2 inch copper comes in building. Then goes to 1 inch water meter and backflow. Then 3/4 branches. Is there any benefit having the 2 inch from city property besides further expansion

At 50 GPM, there would be a big difference in the pressure drop vs 1 inch pipe. http://www.pressure-drop.com/Online-Calculator/ Your flow is probably less than 50 gpm, so the difference would be less. But it will always be there.

It also could allow you to meet a code requirement.
