i have 1/2” butyl supply lines. Under my bathroom floor I’m transitioning to pex to run up as the supply to my new bathtub/shower. Is there any benefit to transitioning from 1/2” butyl to 3/4” pex? This transition is about 5’ from the spout. I’m not sure if it would give me anymore throughput.

Not with a 5’ run. The 1/2” butyl determines the water flow. Most fixtures have 1/2 fittings so stay with 1/2” if you can. With 3/4” you may have to reduce it anyway.

FYI... the tub spout must be copper from the shower/tub valve body. It will be stated in the installation instructions.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking...didn't think there'd be any benefit. And also thanks for the reminder about copper. I plan to do that.
