Options to Boost Low Water Pressure from City ?

My city water pressure is a paltry 40 psi on my side of the 3/4" meter. My service line is new 1-1/4" sch40 pvc. I'd like to have at least 50 psi for the second floor bathroom but would prefer to not have up and down pressure variations. I don't think we would ever exceed 10 gpm flow and...

Which coupling for 3" PVC to 4" Cast Iron

My cast iron measures 4-1/4" OD. Does it sound like a Mission CP 43 (4" CI to 3" PL, ST, or XH CI ) would be the way to go? I'll see what the supply house has tomorrow morning and then track down an inspector to get his ok too.

Uponor source in North Carolina ?

Does anyone know of an Uponor supplier in North Carolina? I've already checked with two supply houses and neither had heard of Uponor. One sold Zurn and the other Viega...

Which coupling for 3" PVC to 4" Cast Iron

I need to connect my new 3" PVC drain line to the old 4" cast iron drain. The pipes are on the horizontal in the basement. Which Fernco coupling would be preferred? The 1056-43 Flexible coupling or the ProFlex 3000-43 ? It looks like either coupling would accomplish the same thing but it...

Controller needed for On Demand Recirculating

I'd really like to install a recuirculating pump to feed hot water to a far away bath but I'm not having any success googling for a controller. I'd like to program the pump to run based on time of day but also if a motion sensor is tripped. Does anyone know if there any timers that also...

Is my kitchen sink vented correctly? Intermittent back ups and noises.

It looks like the plumbing contractor got paid by the fitting on that job! I thought all vents had to be above the flood level rim of the fixture before they could turn horizontal.

Is my DWV Design OK ?

Hi HJ... Vent? We'll just open a window! I think the p-trap you must be referring to from the picture is for a shower. It's wet vented through a lav next to it. Here's a couple of pics to hopefully clarify. I know it's got to be tough just looking at bits and pieces. thanks Laying...

Is my DWV Design OK ?

I'm thinking I should hide a pack of metal cutting blades in the bathroom wall somewhere for the poor guys that remodel my house in a hundred years ! I can hear them cussing now. Who the heck frames walls with 4" screws :-) oh, I make myself laugh...

Is my DWV Design OK ?

I keep the recip on hand to frighten the pipe into submission ! ! Actually, I had to scallop out a little bit of the 2x8 band joist and 2x6 sill plate where that kitchen 2" line goes down through the floor so I could make the turn into a combo.... the recip was the perfect tool. Plus, when...

Is my DWV Design OK ?

Just checking back in. I'm almost done with my rough-in and it's been going great thus far. All I have to do is tie my new drain line into the old cast iron and tie together my vents and I'll be ready to test. Here's a pic of the basement. The old cast iron plumbing hung down from the joist...

Is my DWV Design OK ?

You're correct HJ, this will be my first time installing a system from scratch. Thankfully, I've got over 20 years as a residential GC so I'm not a total construction noobie :) So, did you notice any errors or things that could be improved? I know I left out a cleanout where the branch for...

Is my DWV Design OK ?

Is my DWV Design OK ? Almost done now ! I'm replumbing my house and would like any suggestions for improvements to my DWV design. I've attached pdf's of the design in plan view and 3D. I'm sorry, but the 2nd and 3rd floor plans get a little confusing to view since all the walls and fixtures...

Best tool to drill 3-5/8 hole in wood

Is 3-5/8 the best size to drill for 3" PVC? It sure seems like it will be a tight fit since the pipe is 3-1/2 OD. I was planning on boring the following hole sizes: 1-1/2" PVC - 2-1/8" hole 2" PVC - 2-9/16" hole 3" PVC - 3-5/8 hole (since I haven't found a 3-3/4" bit)

Best tool to drill 3-5/8 hole in wood

What is the best type of drill bit for drilling holes in wood framing for 3" PVC ? Are the self feed bits best? I see a 3-5/8 by Milwaukee for about $100.

    Location of Water Service Cutoff

My house was built back in 1940 and had all galvanized pipe which were badly corroded on the inside. I've removed all the supply pipes the entire DWV system and plan on re-plumbing the house with PVC dwv and PEX. I'd also like to replace my galvanized water service pipe from the street but...

Test Tee's - where to put them

Hello ! I'm re-plumbing my house (3 stories on a basement) and am trying to consider ease of future maintenance in the dwv design since at some point there will be a couple of tenants living here as well. What are your thoughts regarding the following: 1. Installing a test tee directly...
