Celotex as underground water line insulation?

I've been fighting for two weeks to find a frozen water line. Previous (original) owner and builder doesn't remember how they came out of the shop with the water line to the well. Nor does he remember how deep the line is although he thought no more than three feet. Anyway, yesterday, I was...

    Pressure tank question

The pressure tank is an Amtrol Champion. I have also attached a crude drawing of how the system works (in pdf format below) per the drilling company owner who came out Thursday. Another shot of tank side - line comes in and there's a shut-off valve visible in the wall. The last shot is...

    Pressure tank question

The guy from the plumbing/drilling company said that box (pic above) was power for pressure tank. There's an on/off switch next to it to turn off well/tank. I don't know what's what. I'm leaning against this being a frozen pipe problem - my first post was wrong - water line from well runs...

    Pressure tank question

Needle on voltmeter sweeps quickly across the dial face from left to right and stays there - it's pegged. Oh, and to answer an earlier question, draining water from valve on pressure tank produced nothing but a slow trickle of clear water.

You lost me with that comment.

    Pressure tank question

Scratch the above post. I punched three holes at various distances, and the ground is frozen only up to 8" where it collects run-off. I find it illogical to believe that it may be frozen at the "T" where line continues to the house and "T's" off to pressure tank. Water straight from the pump...

    Pressure tank question

Further investigation with the help of a specialist locally has led us to believe the line into the pressure tank from the well is frozen. It more than likely is frozen right at the edge of the lean-to of the shop where water has run off, soaked into the ground and then froze. I checked with...

    Pressure tank question

This morning, I followed Reach4's advice - I hooked up a hose on the drain coming out of the tank - right past the gauge. Nothing came out. A little gurgle at first but that was it. BoyceDrilling - it does not appear to have pegged all the way around. There's a heavy duty switch and a...

    Pressure tank question

How do I know the well turned off? I can drain into a bucket. I don't know which circuit breaker is well or pressure tank. An electrician built this place and didn't mark a single breaker in house or shop.

    Pressure tank question

I wrote the above at work. Went and checked tonight - pressure tank gauge is reading zero. I'm guessing that means the well is bypassing it? What do I do to get pressure back in tank? I have pics if needed.

    Pressure tank question

I live out in the country - on my own well. Well is connected to pressure tank in my shop, and from there the water line runs underground to house about 175 ft. away, as well as is connected to sink/toilet in the shop. I was 2000 miles away two weeks ago, and had my dad checking on pellet...

    Star water system

Problem solved. Bought a new control unit. Water quality is improving every day. Thank you to all who responded for the help.

    Star water system

Pushing the red button didn't help - it does act like indexing (center) knob/dial is jammed. It did not turn even after taking it off tank.

    Star water system

Thank you for your reply - prior to checking back out here, I figured out I needed to look for Fleck rebuild kit and have one coming. However, I followed video instructions to tear this down - there's really no buildup in either valve assemblies or the line running to salt tank. Both valves...

    Star water system

The home is 7 years old, so am guessing system is no older then that. And yes, I can hear it running. I've done some searching, but not finding a rebuild kit for it.

    Star water system

We are on a well - typically, these types of set ups are common in this area whether they should be or not. We have not done a water test. When we first moved in, we weren't getting the foul odor for about the first two months. Ironically, the salt tank was pretty much empty and full of...

    Star water system

Thanks for your response. I'm guessing you're referring to the small line as the one when facing control valve comes out the right hand side. Not sure where the bigger line is. Two things - first, I can't turn the knob CW past 12 o'clock which is the "backwash" setting - it simply won't turn...

I would say that's an exact match - thinking it's the 5600 DR control valve.

    Star water system

Does anybody know anything about these? We have the two tank model # s07FS32SR and best I can tell, there are two lines to the 2092 "DR" control valve. Bought this place in September, and it seemed to be working fine at the time. But we've filled up the tank with salt and it hasn't gone down...

Over 35,000 gallons in less then two months?

More like 40K gallons in 60 days, and yes that is high for a couple in their late 50's early 60's - just the two of them living here. They're trying to make a farm out of their place - the well contractors and plumbing contractors around here are telling me that's quite high. Agreement does...
