So this is my dilema (Sump pump related)

Okay thanks, wasn't planning to get anything very deep (digging out 24 inches is going to be hard enough) when you say foundation footing, are you talking about the bottom of the concrete? Or the wooden part? Maybe I should take a picture of what's under the house to pos

So this is my dilema (Sump pump related)

Thanks for the link, so wondering, what makes something a crawl space basin, vs a sump basin? I can see that the sump basin holds more (gallon rating) also doens't have the pre-drilled holes (think I can manage drilling holes) the main difference appears to be the shape, is that critical...

So this is my dilema (Sump pump related)

So, an update, after having 2 inches of water in the sub-basement this morning (yay!) I went for option 2 to start with, so far I've jsut replaced the pump, got a Rigid pump with a float that goes up and down a pole, vs the free float, seems to work fine, and has drained the majority of the...

So this is my dilema (Sump pump related)

We HAD a sump pump under our house, tonight because of the crappy installation (I suspect a cheap/DIY job by prior owner) tonight after heavy rain, it broke (it turned on, the float got stuck, didn't turn off, by the time I got to it and released the float, smoke was coming out of the housing...

Sump pumps in Dirt crawlspace and maintenance/questions

cacher_chick, Once again, thanks for the valuable information and ideas, around here (Northern CA) only really rains from December through April (at least in the past 2 years that I've owned a house here) so a hose actually might be a workable idea, possibly put PVC pipe out of the crawlspace...

Sump pumps in Dirt crawlspace and maintenance/questions

Thanks for the info cacher chick, will probably do as much investigation as I can WITHOUT cutting any piping, not sure on my skills at putting it back together and having it work right :P What I mean't about cutting through pavement, should have really been sidewalk, sorry, using English...

Sump pumps in Dirt crawlspace and maintenance/questions

Right now I have a sump pump in my dirt crawlspace, while it does HELP with the water under the house problem, I honestly think it was installed by a complete amateur (or a cowboy if you prefer the term). A few of the things that I know are wrong with it 1. The earth around the pump appears to...

Well water testing for irrigation use

Any recommendations on places to test it then? I'm vaguely thinking a drinking water test might be interesting... but I'm not sure, just trying to get some idea of costs and ability, unfortunately I think I have about the only well in the area, so can't really check with neighbours

Well water testing for irrigation use

Grass and such I'm not sure I care about, it's more the vegetables that I worry about, with the gpm rating of the hand-pump I should be fine then, since that's probably quite a lot less than 1gpm, I'll have to see if/when I get the motor hooked back up. Still thinking I might have the water...

Well water testing for irrigation use

Does anyone have recommendations on companies/tests for this? I have a well (as discussed before) I now have a working inertia pump, and am slowly continuing to try to get the pump that was connected working, but something I'd like to know is the suitability of the water for both watering the...

    Submersible or Jet??

Generally from everything I've read, a submersible pump is MUCH BETTER for a deep well than a jet pump. That's my opinion.

Do I need a new well??

My thoughts (and I'm not hugely knowledgable but have done SOME digging around) I don't see why you'd need a new well, UNLESS the well is dry AND unable to be made deeper, not sure if you can open the well cap and check to see if there is water (possibly depends on the depth of the well).

Pipe to use for inertia pump

I'm thinking of starting simple and putting together an inertia pump and then slowly seeing if I can get back to my jet pump (and get that working). For now I just want to go with the basics, for an inertia pump from reading all I really need is a foot/check valve (Ace Hardware seems to sell...

    Deep well Jet Pump question(s)

Persumably volutes are the channels that go from the center of the Impeller out towards the edge (that spin the water out thus gaining pressure?) if so, yes I did clean them out, just trying to figure what to plug the "outlet" hole with and then I'll try to run another test.

    Toro sprinklers question

Okay thanks for the advice, think it's something I'll slowly work on at some point, right now I've got too many other things going on to even really think about this (was hoping it might be a quick fix). I did discover that the rainbird sprinkler wrench does work for Toro Impacts (at least the...

    Deep well Jet Pump question(s)

Bob, Thanks again for the response, just to confirm, all you need is a pump with an impeller and you can pull up water? Or I need to adjust and add something else as well? Just trying to make sure I know what I need to try to see if the pump even works (again, pump originally was fairly...

    Toro sprinklers question

Yeah, I'd read that having popup's and impacts on the same zone was bad, but you deal with what you get, in this case I got popup's and impacts in the same zones, I have to assume that at some point it worked (I believe the prior owner had a professional in to install it) so my next thought it...

    Deep well Jet Pump question(s)

Bob, Thanks for the response, any information/help gratefully recieved. The pump needed to be taken apart because the impeller wasn't spinning (because of all the rust inside the body of the pump) now that that is cleared the impeller does at least spin (whether it pumps or not is another...

    Deep well Jet Pump question(s)

First post, and I'm completely new to pumps and wells (and all that they involve). This weekend decided to figure out the well pump that's on my property (located in El Cerrito, Northern CA), owned the house for about a year, prior owner hadn't used pump in "some" years, and had determined that...

    Toro sprinklers question

First post, so I'm hoping I don't make too many errors in etiquette. I brought my house last year and as part of annual checking figured I'd make sure all the sprinklers that the prior owner had had installed were working still (and pointing in the right directions). House is in El Cerrito...
