[Solved] T&P valve leaking from thermal expansion

New 50 gal AO Smith gas WH which is leaking small amounts of water out of the T&P valve. - I'm getting normal pressure reading of 50 lbs, with a max pressure reading 160 lbs. - I installed a new 2 gallon Everbuilt expansion tank which has 45 lbs of pressure. Would a larger expansion tank or...

I need to rough in plumbing for a kitchen sink as part of a remodel. I plan to install the plumbing in the wall. Cabinet and fixtures are not chosen yet, but will be a double sink (equal size with disposal on the left). DW to the left of the sink. Under counter water filter w/dispenser. Is...

Sewer gas after bathroom remodel - replace cast iron??

Update: Thanks for responses below getting me off the idea of cast iron leaks -- turns out the wax ring wasn't big enough because it's on an oval shape offset flange. I didn't realize it when I followed the toilet instructions to mount their wax ring to the toilet. I'm trying a sani-seal now...

Best way to remove PEX stainless steel cinch style crimp ring?

It looks like the removal tool that sharkbyte and others make is not made for cutting stainless. I've been using a dremel and then scoring the pex with a boxcutter until I can get the fitting off without damage, but it seems like there should be a better way.

    PVC p-trap leaking?

I'm getting a slight leak where the tailpiece joins the j-bend. The diagram on the packaging doesn't show a washer in this location - it's just plastic on plastic. Do I need to tighten more, or use some kind of sealant?

How do I attach trap to this?

This is a 1 1/2" copper pipe that has a 1 1/4" chrome pipe soldered into it. The chrome piece has seen better days but is still serviceable. I'm going to install a PVC trap since it's inside a vanity but the tailpiece doesn't attach to this 1 1/4" piece of chrome. Should I get a coupling, or...

How should I update this supply/drain to bathroom sink?

I have a 60's ranch that had a mix of cast iron, copper and galvanized piping. Some of the galvanized has clogged or rusted through so when something starts leaking I've been working to get rid of the galvanized. I used to sweat copper, but have recently switched to using PEX. I want to fix...

How much time between applying primer and cement is acceptable? Should cement be applied to pipe AND fitting or is one of them only okay?

Cast iron pipe clogged - this is not good

My recent post had a picture of CI pipe under kitchen sink that had rotted through. Unfortunately, when I cut out the bad section of pipe I found it is 75% full of sludge even where it is pitched properly. Below are pictures. 1) Should I replace as much of the horizontal run of CI...

Cast iron pipe has rotted - best way to fix?

I found a leak in my crawlspace from a waste line cast iron pipe under my kitchen sink. The slope on the pipe was wrong and I think water and debris sat in the pipe since 1966 and it rotted through. The leak is coming from the end of the line with the pipe going through the floor. The Y with...

    Flue tape?

Is tape ever used to seal the seams of a WH or furnace flue? If so, is it something other than the metal tape used to seal HVAC ductwork? I'm asking because my home's WH has a 3" single wall that is poked into a 6" single wall that comes off the furnace. The 6" goes into 6" B that goes up and...

replace plastic drain valve on Rheem WH?

I was disappointed to find the 9 year GE WH has been downgraded to a plastic drain valve instead of the brass one that was on their display model. Is it worth the effort to replace the plastic valve with a brass ball valve before I install it? If so, is there anything special about what...

plastic or metal WH catch pan?

I would think plastic would be better, but at HD the plastic pan was listed as for "electric" and the metal plan was listed as for "gas or electric". What's the theory behind the distinction, and does it really matter?

Is a WH supposed to be raised off the floor?

Is there a requirement/advantage to raising it off the floor? I'm asking because my old water heater had 2" legs underneath it. It looks like the new ones are flat on the bottom.

Water pipe used as electrical ground?

My electrical panel looks like it's connected to a copper water supply for ground. If the copper pipe is unioned to a galvanized pipe that goes to the main, is the electrical ground still intact - or is there a dialectric that breaks the ground? If there is a break, is there a normal...

    Galvanized pipe to water main?

We have copper inside the house, but a galvanized pipe that runs to the meter by the street. Our house is about 40 years old. Unfortunately, the run of the pipe would be down a healthy slope and cross under our concrete driveway. 1) Is there anyway to determine the condition of the pipe? We...
