Possible changes to 248 CMR 10.00

https://www.supportmaplumbingcode.org/ Apparently, there have been talks about changing MA plumbing code to the National plumbing code. Those who oppose to change (licensed plumbers) say the change will allow homeowners to pull their own plumbing permits and do their own work. "There may be...

Is there a code requirement for bathroom fan CFM?

Located in Massachusetts I am renovating a 114 sqft bathroom. Ceiling height is 8 ft. 1 regular shower, 1 regular bathtub, 1 toilet, 1 sink Can I get away with a 110 CFM fan on a 4” solid duct about 6’ long with 1’ of flex duct? Will that be code?

Once the main vent stack enters up through the attic floor, does it have to go straight up through the roof?

Located in MA. Once the main vent stack enters up through the attic floor, does it have to go straight up through the roof? Or can it (theoretically) go to the other side of the house, then through the roof?

Can I install a 2nd flr laundry room emergency floor drain that dumps into basement slop sink?

My issue is that if I do a floor drain, the building (not plumbing) inspector told me that it has to be connected to regular plumbing, with a trap and all. It can’t be going outside. That means I will need a trap primer. To me, that is all unnecessary money spent with another point of possible...

Acrylic Alcove Tub Install Framing Issues

How did you end up doing with this? My Kohler Underscore tub also has a thick flange. The tub actually looks very similar to yours. I am planning on using 5/8” wallboard to make it flush or stick out past the flange.

Can I install a 2nd flr laundry room emergency floor drain that dumps into basement slop sink?

I asked a building inspector, not plumbing inspector. I wonder if it has to do with weather sealing. For example, the laundry room would be cold in the winter because of the pipe going outside. The only thing I can think of for the slop sink is that it may be a fire hazard? Same reason why they...

Are these screws okay for securing tub flange to studs?

Thank you. I will change the screws. This is the tub. https://www.us.kohler.com/us/underscore-60-x-32-alcove-bath-with-integral-apron-integral-flange-and-left-hand-drain/productDetail/bathing/1267894.htm

Are these screws okay for securing tub flange to studs?

Are these screws okay for securing tub flange to studs? Or do I need the countersinking kind? This is a Kohler Underscore tub. I'm going to need to use 5/8" backerboard because the Kohler tub flange is so thick. ]

Can I install a 2nd flr laundry room emergency floor drain that dumps into basement slop sink?

Located in Massachusetts. The inspectors already told me I can’t terminate the drain to the outside of the house. I dont want to ask them about the basement slop sink and give them reason to mess with me. A bunch of walls are already to the studs making it easy. The renovation is permitted but...

2nd floor laundry room emergency drain. Do I need to prep the floor like a tiled shower floor with Kerdi or Schluter?

At a minimum, do you think I should paint on some of that pink waterproofing liquid stuff? I dont plan on draining anything. Just for emergencies. It’s going to have to be tied in to regular plumbing though. So it will have a trap with a trickle thingy.

2nd floor laundry room emergency drain. Do I need to prep the floor like a tiled shower floor with Kerdi or Schluter?

I am remodeling the house, it is currently gutted. I want to move the laundry room to the 2nd floor. I want an emergency floor drain just in case. Should the floor be prepped with Schluter or Kerdi or whatever membrane to make it waterproof? Or since it's only for emergencies, a regular tiled...

Are tub spout diverters legal? Located in MA

My plan is to have a tub spout w/ built-in diverter hooked up the the bottom port of a R10000 UNBX. And a handheld shower hooked up to the top port of the R10000UNBX. I don't want a separate wall mounted diverter because that, in my mind, is expensive and looks ugly with 2 trims on the wall.

Are tub spout diverters legal? Located in MA

When used with a R10000-UNBX, why can't the tub spout come from the bottom, but the handheld come from the top, like a regular shower? Not that it matters to me too much because a plumber will be doing the work. But I just didn't want to buy a separate diverter and trim. Big $ for no reason...

Are tub spout diverters legal? Located in MA

Lol kooky is exactly why I am asking! But more for new construction, not grandfathered in or anything. I did just read an article on EPA.gov stating that the allowable leak rate is 0.1 GPM new and 0.2 GPM after it's life cycle testing. https://www.epa.gov/watersense/bath-and-shower-diverters I...

Are tub spout diverters legal? Located in MA

Hi I'm going to be using the Delta Galeon trim. I want a soaking bathtub spout filler and a hand sprayer, no showerhead. Delta's R22000 is not good for a tub filler. I don't want 2 separate wall trims knobs for a diverter and valve. My only option is for a tub spout diverter. Are they still...

Delta R22000 Pipe size for two heads

Trying to buy rough-in valve and trim for tub spout and hand sprayer.

This is for a soaking bathtub with a handsprayer. I've already purchase Delta Galeon fixtures for the rest of the house so I'd like to stay with that line. For the bathtub, I'm looking at the T27T871 Trim with the R22000 (WS?) rough-in. But the Q&A section says it's not good for a tub because...
