If you scrape away the bottom of the spout close to the wall,there is a Allen key screw that holds the spout to the copper pipe. Loosen the screw and it should come off.

Are you putting back a shower pan ? If yes make sure it is installed properly. You will need to cut out the bottom of the cement board if that is what you have, to accommodate the new shower pan to slide under the board. You star with the bottom and work your way up.

I have never seen it done that way. You do need a waterproofing membrane between the cement board and tile as mentioned .

Just bye the pictures i would say he did not apply the mud to the end ant that is why it looks like,based on what i see and not being there. Second, was the sheet rock waterproofed? I have not installed tile over sheet rock unless waterproofed or used Ditra.

So far i have not heard anybody say anything about PEX-B having the same issue as PEX-A (red) .
